We pretend to be alive When we died so long ago You know that spirits cannot thrive On air, food, and drink alone We wear a happy face while All our spirits grow so cold It takes more than just a smile To bring cheer and warm the soul We tell our friends we’re okay While we suffer deep inside Why bother with these words we say When they just seem to be lies While this life you may defend Friend, I’m tired of pretend.

There's a place that I want to go Where the people are pure as snow Where love flows like an endless stream And all of us can reach our dreams Instead you seem content to range In this world that you say can't change You seat yourself deep in the mud First to die in the coming flood Gonna run for the higher ground Gonna search for what can't be found Cause despite what I know you'll say I KNOW that there's no point to stay While you're drowning in certainty I'll be living life, lost, but free

Humans are not meant to fly Be productive with your day It's a waste to even try That is what you always say But thoughts of flight fill my dreams The clear blue skies call to me I'll work out some sort of scheme With it I will make you see Yet you laugh and tell me straight Life just does not work that way Humans have way too much weight The ground is where we should stay And yet I still work in vain To make my dream come to light From dawn till sun starts to wane I'll achieve this dream of flight Test day for my flight comes fast In the end I fly and fall Straight down towards a fated crash That of which you still recall

She is a man like any other man She has two arms and two legs and two hands She has two eyes, a nose, mouth, and brown hair Her heart beats blood and her lungs breath in air She laughs at most jokes, and cries when she's sad She's calm at most times, but scary when mad Love is sometimes something keen on her mind She says though, she hasn't seen the right signs. She has a family, friends, and a job She's even been meaning to get a dog She lives in a house and drives in a car She loves to sit and look up at the stars As a human being, isn't she fine? Or is your mind still stuck on the first line?

Do you see the world in just black and white All that's within must be dark and/or light A place where just good and evil reside Is that what you see, oh child of mine Or can you now see where black and white meet That nothing in life is ever concrete Do you now see times between night and day Is your world covered in new shades of gray And yet I will say, naïve you are still To paint the true world, three colors can't fill For the world has more than gray, white, and black To use just those three, your painting would lack The world that you drew couldn't be duller The world isn't gray, its full of colors

At first I wanted to sing you a song It was a great plan until I recalled That I really can't quite sing songs at all Then I decided to write you poems Sometimes I can really write a great gem Alas my mind did not want to write them Well hey, maybe a piece of art would do That I could draw, possibly give to you But I found my art skills were lacking too A simple letter was next in my thoughts Something original, catchy, not bought And yet all the right words couldn't be sought Well crap, maybe I should tell you straight out Rock at your window and give you a shout But really, I'd rather not go that route So I decided to go with

A mirror sits upon my wall I sometimes pass it through the day In bordered glass it reflects all I linger not under its gaze For if I stare what shall I see Upon the surface of the glass A face that should belong to me Yet all I'll find there is a mask A mask I try to keep in place In which I try to hide behind I try to meld it to my face So I can live in my disguise But should I stare too long with eyes Through the mask they'll bore in holes For mirrors cannot suffer lies And eyes are mirrors to the soul I hide behind my mask in fear Yet in the end, it's all for naught When I stand before a mirror In its visage, the truth

I'll hide away the sun Just for right now I swear Not doing it for fun I do it cause I'm scared What if it should go out? And leave us dark and cold? Stored safe I'll have no doubt It never will be sold. For look at people here Trustworthy they are not They're full of greed and fear With them the sun would rot Please have no worries where I plan to keep it safe I'll throw it in the air And pin it up in space I'll keep it far too high From all you on the ground Kept safe up in the sky I'll let the light shine down And maybe, just perhaps Straight through this fog of greed The light will shine a path Allowing all to see

She flew on alabaster wings Every single day in Spring On clearer days when she passed by You could even hear her sing It only makes me wonder why Such free spirit had to die What a tragedy to see The girl with wings no longer fly By jealous hands in fits of greed They caused the wings to tear and bleed Oh that we could do such things To cage that which had once been free Today the bells of loss we ring For them, the girl, and for her wings

Ask the Sky Please tell me what you do Oh endless sky of blue When gloomy clouds roll through Marring your perfect hue Do you force the rain Tears shed in bitter shame From clouds which are your bane Till they begin to wane While crying do you shout And at the clouds lash out You strike them in a bout Forming lightning’s route Or do you let them stay To block out the sun’s rays Covering you in gray And darkening the day Those clouds are coming soon Sky, tell me what to do
